The Hairy Toe

There are some stories that, even as an adult, you could recite inside your head. The stories that you requested on countless occasions, knowing the character, the plot, the special voices your parents (or grandparents) would use and loving it all the more. Daniel Postgate’s The Hairy Toe is one such tale for me. A top request, and I can still hear my mum’s spooky rendition of “whoooo’s goooot my haaairy toooooe?!”  I would absolutely squeal with terror and delight when she grabbed me by the shoulder at the end of the book and shouted “YOU’VE GOT IT!”
